What to Expect at Your First Consultation after an Auto Accident

If you've recently been in an auto accident then you're probably considering your options for medical care. While traditional medicine does great job with acute injuries, such as a broken arm, it may struggle to treat patients who have lasting symptoms such as whiplash and back pain. Fortunately, chiropractic care can be a great way to address the ongoing problems that you may be experiencing after an auto accident. Our chiropractor at Armeli Chiropractic serving Mendota Heights, MN, can provide chiropractic care treatment for your auto accident injury.  If you have never visited a chiropractor before, however, or if you've been visiting your whole life but you've never been in a car accident before, here's what to expect.

Your First Consultation for an Auto Accident Injury

Your first session will typically start with our chiropractor getting a medical history from you, followed by a description of the auto accident. Share as much as you know. Specifically, our chiropractor may need to know where you were sitting, how the car was hit, and what safety devices were deployed. This can allow him to help determine where the forces impacted on your body.

Next, you may get a set of x-rays done on the areas that the chiropractor believes were affected. By reviewing these x-rays, it may be possible to see where the damage has occurred and develop a care plan to fix it. Our chiropractor, depending on the type of injury, may be looking for which muscles have moved out of place in order to provide chiropractic care.

The chiropractic care plan usually involves slowly pushing the muscles in these areas back to their usual places. This is to help to reduce inflammation and swelling, which may be the reasons behind the pain you're in. Treatment may take several weeks to several months. Sessions should not hurt, but it is possible for you to continue taking prescription painkillers if you want.
